Eye Exams and Eye Care
Your eye health is important
Regular eye checkups are important for your overall eye health to mitigate potential vision problems or vision loss in the future. These can help detect any issues that may affect the eye like eye strain, age-related or congenital conditions, defects within the anatomical structure of the eye, as well as certain eye diseases.
Why is early detection so important?
Having regular eye checkups is crucial to detect issues with your eyes that you may not even be aware of. Early intervention can help diagnose eye conditions, such as glaucoma and cataracts for example before irreparable damage to the eyes can occur.
Why vision is critical to learning
Vision is particularly important to children at school-going age as poor vision can affect their ability to see information correctly which can ultimately negatively affect the pace at which they learn. Eye exams and wearing the appropriate eye care will help your child see better at school and eliminate the frustration experienced by many children who have trouble seeing clearly.
Blue light-induced eye strain
Spending significant amounts of time in front of a computer screen can cause damage to the eyes from the ‘blue light’ that is emitted from the screen. This can cause harm to your eyes without the proper eyewear as it causes strain on the eyes, damage to the retina, and can even affect your ability to fall asleep at night. Blue light glasses, therefore, filter out the harmful light that may adversely affect your eyesight.
Why your risk of eye disease increases with age
As you age, and particularly from 40 upwards the lens of the eye starts to lose its flexibility – a condition known as presbyopia – making it difficult to focus on objects. Other eye problems that occur with time include conditions such as macula degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma. Having regular eye checkups will ensure that you are given the proper diagnosis and prescribed the correct glasses where appropriate. Using sunglasses that contain sufficient UV protection is also really important if your eyes are regularly exposed to sunlight; these help by preventing eye damage caused by harmful UV rays.
